Supercomputing 12: Day 2 & 3

The Supercomputing show is huge. It takes up all of the convention center space here at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City. I took some panorama shots on my phone in an attempt to show the scale of the exhibits and the floor.

This is a very busy show. In addition to the vendors large and small of hardware and software, there are many booths from universities and research institutions around the world.

We have been fortunate to have lots of conversations with people who are interested in learning more about Ceph, and about what Inktank does for people who want to deploy Ceph in production.

Our discussions have ranged across all of Ceph’s capabilities:

  • The CephFS filesystem and how it can be applied to HPC computing of all kinds from biomedical research to online digital media archives.
  • The Ceph Block Device (RBD) to quickly spin up virtual machine infrastructure for testing, development and production in linux deployments of all kinds from HPC to cloud
  • Writing applications in Python, Ruby and other languages to put data directly in Ceph’s RADOS massively scalable object store

It is really great to see this much interest from the HPC community and we hope to continue these conversations tomorrow for the last day of the show.
